Amber how long have you had the dog and what kind of things are you looking for in training.  Is it tricks or improved behaviour,   what have you tried to do so far,  are you first and the only owner of the dog?

We've had her for over 3 months now. and we've taught her to sit for food in that time. and i'm hoping she'll be a show dog.

Well, if I was to make a recommendation I'd find a positive methods trainer near you and join a beginners obedience class.  This link is to the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and has a searchable list of trainers:
http://www.apdt.com/
Also, I'd recommend reading three books to help you understand how your dog thinks:
Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson - explains how dogs think
Purely Postive Training by Sheila Booth - an excellent training guide
Excel-erated Learning by Pamela Reid - a bit more advanced training

Right now, if showing is something you're interested in, then its imperative that you begin socializing your dog to all sorts of people and situations (you don't mention the age of your dog - if its a puppy or an adult) - getting advice from a trainer with experience who can see the areas you need to work on will be of great benefit for both of you.

Surplus reading:
Catch your dog doing something right by Krista Cantrell - a little surplus reading to help buffer the training zone
The Power of Positive Dog Training by Pat Miller

Attend dog shows as well to watch handlers and meet people.  Making connections this way will help guide you in the training effort.
From there you can be directed to various individuals or groups who can help you with all the ins and outs of showing.  Plus, use your breeder as a resource.
Join a breed club...always tons of info there!

Best of luck!

First, STARE the dog in the eyes. make the dog be the first to blink, then you should be able to "take control." But make sure s/he blinks first.
Okay.

Okay, first DO NOT stare your dog down.  This type of "training" is based on the highly inaccurate dominance theory (read why does my dog board).  We do not need to threaten our dogs ever when training them - and staring them down is a threat of physical action coming soon.  Making eye contact is not a normal thing for dogs to do, we have to train them to accept eye contact and make it with us.  So, here are the rules of dog training:

Okay top 5 rules of training:
1. Don't try to be a dog. You arent one and you'll fail miserably
trying to act like one. NO alpha rolls, scruff shakes, growling or staring.

2. Identify the problem behaviour you dont want. In this case its jumping.

3.Define what you want the dog to do instead. The answer to this
question is *never* "Stop doing the problem behavior." You could
suppress the behavior, and the dog could choose to do something even
worse! Save yourself a ton of frustration -- and your dog a ton of
confusion -- and choose a preferred behavior.

4. Make the undesired behavior unreinforcing or impossible. That
means being proactive.  Look at when she jumps.  Is she doing it
out of excitement when you come home at the door?  Then block her access
to the doorway and dont acknowledge her until she sits quietly.  Then (if you
are using a clicker) click and reward her.  Does she just jump up on you for attention?  Walk away from her when she does and ignore her for 5 minutes.  Then call her to you and pet her, and then stop.  By doing this _you_ effectively demonstrate that you decide when pettings occur.  Dogs will do whatever gets them the most out of life - take advantage of that.

5. Train the desired behavior. Now that you have steps 3 and 4 in
mind its time to do the hard part - train train train. Repetition
and proofing == success.  You can't let her jump up some of the time and
expect her to never do it later.  All these steps must be put into action.

Dont lose your temper and punish (not suggesting that you are) her for jumping because she hasn't learned yet that jumping is not what you want her to do.  If you'd like more info or guidance please write a detailed description of what she does and when it happens and we'll see if we can develop a plan of action.
